Essential Bioethanol Fire Safety Tips for Users
Share
Bioethanol fires are safe when using certified models, maintaining proper clearances, and following strict fuel-handling rules, but they pose fire and burn risks if used carelessly. Because they burn liquid alcohol without a chimney, user error is the primary cause of accidents.
Core Safety Rules
- Never refill a hot burner: Always allow the fire to extinguish completely and cool down for at least 15 to 20 minutes before adding more fuel. Pouring liquid onto a hot or lit burner can cause an explosive flash fire.
- Wipe up spills immediately: Clean any accidental drips from the outside of the unit before lighting the fire.
- Use the right tools: Ignite the burner using an extended lighter or extra-long matches to keep your hands at a safe distance.
- Maintain clear zones: Keep the appliance on a level, stable surface at least one metre away from curtains, furniture, and other flammable materials.
- Ensure basic ventilation: While they do not produce toxic smoke or soot, they do consume oxygen and release water vapour. Keep an internal door open or crack a window to maintain fresh airflow.
By treating bioethanol fires with the same caution as a gas hob or a large candle, they remain a secure and efficient way to warm your space.
